Here are 10 tips to make your wordpress blog more effective:
- Use a custom theme. There are many free themes available. Use one of them. If you want your blog to be more unique, create your own theme or have someone to create one. This will add individuality to your blog.
- Use a theme that occupies the whole screen. This will maximize your blog’s advertising potential. You will lose online real estate if you use narrow columned themes.
- Use a custom favicon that suits the theme of your blog. For example, if you blog is about nutrition, use an apple or something related.
- Use permalinks. Permalinks will include keywords in the post url. Search engines will rank your pages better if you use permalinks.
- Make use of the pages feature. Use the pages to write about yourself, your hobbies, etc. You can also use the pages to create "How-Tos" and provide useful information to your visitors.
- Use a sitemap. You will have to use a plugin that updates the sitemap automatically. Using a sitemap will enable search engines to index all your pages. Users will also find the sitemap useful.
- Customize the 404 page. Add more text and provide a link to your homepage or the sitemap. This will allow stray visitors to find the information they need.
- Rename "comments" to something else, for example: "Please let us know your opinion". This will prevent comment spam.
- Change the "Powered by WordPress" to something else. You can remove it if you want.
- Always tag your posts and pages. Search engines love this.
