Hardware needed to keep DP up and running
Internet October 18th, 2007
DigitalPoint is one of the busiest forums, flocked by webmasters, web designers and anyone and everyone has something to with online businesses. With over 100,000 members, every day it sees millions of hits. Not only that, it also dominates the search engines for countless number of keywords. No doubt a forum this busy will need hardware that will wow! the ordinary man.
Here are the hardware specs that power DP:
- rack-mount form factor (7U)
- 20 dual core 64-bit Xeon processors (40 total cores)
- 2.9 TB of hot swappable 15k rpm disk space with hardware mirroring
- 120GB RAM
- dual gigabit Ethernet ports
DP is powered by SuSE Linux Enterprise Edition.
This hardware cost Shawn, the founder of DP a whooping $85,000 plus change.
How would be it like, if somebody were to use all this computing power to power his/her desktop ?
